I heard a statement this weekend that packs a big punch. "As conservative christians we're pro-life, but very few of us are pro-children" A lot of truth wrapped up in a small sentence. I was doing some reading recently on the history of birth control and it's interesting that the person who introduced birth control as we know it today, was a woman by the name of Margaret Sanger. She believed that the physically unfit, the materially poor, the racially inferior-including the Jews and Blacks- must be restricted or eliminated. Contraception, sterilization and abortion were the perfect methods for getting rid of these "human weeds." She is also the "mother" of Planned Parenthood. We recoil in shock and horror at the thought of being associated with a thought process like that but sometimes i wonder how far removed the church really is from that spirit.

A powerful quote i heard this weekend regarding "christian liberty." "We are either slaves to the world, or slaves to Jesus Christ. We have no choice." I'm thinking i got my toes stepped on this weekend.

  1. :)

if you had said that to me even 1.5 yrs ago I would have thought... "bah!"

and now. now I just nod with a smile.

    my how things change...

  2. Yup...yup....yup....you go girl. Preach it. You got more than your toes stepped on this weekend. You are indeed blessed. I am proud of you my dear one and I know that your Heavenly Father is pleased. I love you.

  3. Funny, I'd have to agree with what the first person who replied said. We're still finding our way with all of this but I believe more and more that we're going be having a rather large family. :) We will see who the Lord blesses us with in the years to come. Blessings to you.

  4. what makes a Christian conservative?

  5. Ahhh, good question. A conservative christian in our viewpoint is someone who takes the Bible literally, accepting truth for what it is, no matter how hard it is to swallow. A pro-gay, pro-choice, pro-sensuality and materialistic professing "christian" is no longer conservative by any stretch of the imagination. Of course, the word conservative can also be applied in many other ways..............

  6. Yes, you are right. Also, a non-conservative Christian would also be condemning to others who would not quite "fit the bill", judgemental, prideful, hypocritical, etc.. hidden things of the heart, which do eventually make themselves known outwardly. Thought provoking, isn't it? Thanks for your answer! Has me thinking.......can I trully call myself "conservative"?

Please leave your name (if it is not in your Google ID) so we know who you are. Thanks.
