Insanity

It's the day we leave for a big holiday weekend. We need to leave late afternoon and we decide to eat an early (very early) supper and then have snack at the hotel later tonight. So do i do what any sensible, sane pregnant mother of 6 children would do and make simple sandwiches for supper with bought rolls? Oh no, that wouldn't be special, nor would it be healthy. I decide to make ham and cheese pockets with homemade bread dough. It's when i have 2 screaming 17 month old twins hanging on my skirt, a 5 year old greasing the baking pan with butter up to his elbows and a 7 year old daughter carefully smearing egg wash over the lopsided pockets, that i realize i might have made my life a lot easier by being normal. But when did i ever claim to be normal? We left "normal" a long time ago and have never regretted it. Much. So i send Emily out with the twins (thank you God for a wonderful daughter), and face the daunting task of cleaning up a kitchen that looks like a small Hiroshima hit it. And i haven't even started packing.

Ah well, it's worth every butter smeared second and makes great memories for future family gatherings. And Big Daddy's coming home at lunch and between the two of us we can get a lot of kids cleaned up and out the door. Have a great holiday everyone and remember to enjoy your kids and the fine man God gave you. I intend to and i can't wait!
